Being a Libertarian

Wednesday, January 16th, 2008

So few people have ever heard of the Libertarian political party and
even fewer have any concept of what it’s principals are. Being a libertarian,
I find myself explaining this fairly often. The libertarian philosophies that
I identify most with are very simple. The first being for smaller federal
government and more power to individual states. The second and most important
to me is the definition of a crime. To put it as simple as possible, a crime is
when you harm or endanger someone’s life, liberty or property by force, fraud
or negligence.

Let’s break it down, shall we. Murder, assault, theft and driving under the
influence are all crimes. Smoking pot in your home is not a crime. Consenting
adults participating in any sexual activity in a private setting, no matter
how bizarre, is not a crime. Owning a firearm is not a crime.

This is a very basic breakdown of something very important to me.
For a whole lot more information, I encourage you to check out www.lp.org

and btw Ron Paul is a libertarian in republicans clothing…..
