Good Morning

Friday, April 11th, 2008

Kids say the funniest things sometimes.
Never did I expect a 7 year old boy to make me
burst into uncontrolled laughter at 6:30 in the
morning. The other day, my girlfriend, Katie was
waking David up for school as usual. When he got
up she said good morning to him and he replied,
“You always say that to me, but you’re waking me up!”
The disgruntled look on his face was absolutely priceless.

Dating a woman with childern that are not yours

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Now here’s a subject! This is something that I am learning more and more about every day.
This is probably because I am dating a woman with a child. For me, as with many other men, this
is something completely new. I have been dating Katie for about 8 months and she has a 7 year
old son, David. Before I get into any advice or personal experiences it is extremely important
to note that everyone’s situation is unique. With that in mind, here are a few things to
consider.

*The mother’s relationship with the father.

*The child’s relationship with both parents.

*Age/sex of the child.

*Your relationship with the child.

*Your relationship with the father.

*Your job, hobbies and interests, and whether they are condusive to having a child around.

*Do you have or want children?

These are some very basic factors that need to be taken into careful consideration before
any further conjecture can be made or opinions formed. Remember, everyone’s situation is
unique.

I have known many single mom’s but have never dated any. Nor have I ever asked their thoughts
on this subject. Well there’s never a time like now. I’m going to take the time to talk
to a few people that may be able to enlighten me. This may take a few weeks but it’s something
that I definitely look forward to learning and writing more about. I also certainly wouldn’t
mind hearing from people from across the net with their thoughts and experiences, both male and
female.

I don’t have all the answers, but I’m always looking for them.

Violent Video Games

Saturday, February 9th, 2008

My girlfriend will not let her 7 year old son play any of the Halo
series games because she says their too violent. I can accept this, he’s
her son and It’s not my decision to make. What gets me is that he loves
to play the Star Wars Battlefront series and that’s ok with her. For
those unfamiliar with these games, the violence level is comparable.
Star Wars Battlefront and Halo are both futuristic sci-fi shooters
with virtually no gore or adult language. The content of both games
can be compared to the Star Wars movies. For those unfamiliar with
the Star Wars movies, how is Antarctica these days?

Now I know that he is not my child and it’s not my decision to make.
I’m ok with with this but I just don’t understand. After all I grew
up on Ozzy Osbourne and zombie movies. I can’t say that hard rock or
gore had any adverse effects on me or anyone else that I know. I’ve
even managed to make a career out of the latter.

Katie is a good mother and David is a great kid and I don’t see
anything changing that. Good parenting is hard to corrupt.
Music, movies and video games are all just entertainment. People
are responsible for their own actions. To blame a piece of fiction for
anyone’s misbehavior is absurd.
