So, as I said in my last post, I’ve got family in town. My cousin, Amy is here and probably for good. I’m hiring her as an assistant to help me with my day to day operations. Answering the phone, setting up jobs, giving price quotes, that sort of thing.

Amy is recently divorced and needs a life change. The divorce left her depressed and in a huge amount of debt. Creditors are calling her everyday and the stress is enough to overwhelm anyone . She’s getting her life back together with the help of Debt Counseling and a strong will to go on. With attorney’s fees, and several bills now in collections, she certainly needs help consolidating her debt and she is taking the first steps to a new stress and debt free life. We’re starting with a day trip to Six Flags. I told her the day was on me and to consider it a signing bonus.

Here’s a little more about how to make more money working in the entertainment industry. More specifically at a bar or nightclub. In the clubs, everyone is working for tips, including your friendly neighborhood DJ. Thats not to say we don’t get a paycheck but the real money is in the tips. Working in a good establishment, a bartender or server can make a few hundred dollars in one night just in tips.

The first way is to be friendly and personable. The second is speed. The more people you can serve, the more people that can tip you. One of the biggest factors in maximizing you money is how you look and carry yourself. Be clean and well dressed. Have your clothes neat an ironed and for the ladies make sure your hair and makeup looks good.

No one is perfect and you don’t have to be a “10″ to make money. Plenty of people have acne and there are treatments for it. I hear a lot of people say they use Proactiv Solution . I’ve personally seen the difference that it makes. Even if you weren’t born with perfect skin, with treatment it can be cleared up and no one will know the difference. You can find plenty of info at acne.com.

Finally, attitude is everything and everyone has bad nights. Don’t let them get you down. You can even try changing your look because when you feel better about yourself everyone around you will know.

My girlfriend’s son, David has been taking karate lessons for about a year. He is 7 years old and is progressing well. Every Wednesday night he learns something new that he wants to try out on me. Throws, holds , striking, he does it all quite well for his age. When he first started, Katie didn’t think he would stick with it but he certainly has. He’s now begun expressing interest in pro wrestling and mixed martial arts. I think it’s great. I was on the wrestling team in high school and later had a short stint as a professional wrestler.

His dojo has all the necessary training gear, but he doesn’t have much to work with at home. Surfing through the web, I found a great site for Martial Arts Gear . Asian World of Martial Arts Inc. has everything he could ever need and then some. They carry everything from uniforms to workout equipment and even instructional books and DVD’s. AWMA also carries a full line of Mixed Martial Arts and boxing gear as well. Just a little while ago, I ordered some breakable boards boards for him. I think he’ll love them.

He wants a wrestling ring but he’s going to have to wait a few years and continue showing interest before I shell out that kind of money and give up my garage.

It’s true, I’m a big kid. I have no need to apologize for this because as they say, “You’re only as young as you feel.” I feel much younger than my age. If I never had to work another day in my life, I would spend most of my time traveling the country touring amusement parks. I do this pretty often anyway. I can’t get enough rollercoasters. Up until 2 years ago I had ridden the tallest and fastest that the U.S. has to offer, then Six Flags in New Jersey broke the record again with Kingda Ka. As it stands Kingda Ka is the tallest and fastest coaster in the world and I must ride it. At a dizzying 456 ft high and reaching a top speed of 128mph It looks incredible! For more info and a video click here.

A while back in a blog I wrote about playing Rock Band with my family. The main reason that game was so easy and fun for us is that everyone in my family is a musician. We all play multiple instruments and when we’re together you can be sure of an impromptu jam session. My parents living room looks more like a recording studio than a living space and it suits the whole family just fine. In fact, my mom and dad are always adding to the collection.

Last summer my dad and I went to an estate auction and saw an old Steinway grand piano for sale. We couldn’t resist buying it. My mom has always wanted a real grand piano and we thought it would make a great gift for her. We got it for dirt cheap because it was in really bad shape. The finish was shot, it was missing keys and of course way out of tune.

After we got it back to my house, I started looking for a local shop that could fix it up but to no avail. I looked online and found several places that could do the job. After getting quotes seeing past work from several companies, we decided to go with Lindeblad Piano Restoration.
It took about 3 months or so from the time we sent it off to get it back. When we finally did get it back, the results were absolutely amazing. It was perfectly restored to it’s previous glory. That old junk piano looked and sounded beautiful. I can’t remember the last time my mom was this happy and surprised. She never even knew we bought it because it was kept at my house until her birthday when I showed up with it.

As a professional DJ, much of my income comes from weddings and formal parties. Most of witch I have to be well dressed for. I’m not really big on tuxedos but I do like to wear a nice suit and tie. I tend to go with more dark and bold colors, that’s just the kind of guy I am. Light blue and white just doesn’t look good on me, plus that’s what so many other guys are wearing and I like to be different. As an entertainer, it helps to stand out from the crowd. The local mens wear stores rarely have anything that I like so I do most of my shopping online.

With the internet, you still have to sift through all the boring same old stuff but it’s easier to find something cool and different. Surfing through the net, I came across a site that has some truly Unique Cufflinks. The site, Tateossian.com has some really great stuff. They have some nice jewelry and accessories, but what really stood out were the silver king skull cufflinks. They are just what i was looking for. This site has some really great and unique designs. Head on over to tateossan.com and check ‘em out.

I also have to be well dressed. After all, a nightclub is still a business. I am often asked where I get my clothes for work and the tactical flashlights that I carry. There are very few actual brick and mortar stores to find this stuff. The best place to look is online.

The warm weather is finally here and with me as with many other people, it’s time to get to work on the house. I try to do something for my house every year. Last year, to reduce my energy usage and give the exterior a face lift, I got a new texture coating from American Home Craft . I can’t tell you how pleased I am with the new look of my old house. In addition to making an ordinary home look extraordinary, the texture coat also greatly reduced the cost of heating and cooling.

This year, I’m in the process of having new more energy efficient windows installed. Between the texture coat and the windows my monthly energy bills will have decreased by half. Once again, I’ve got American Home Craft on the job. Their friendly, knowledgeable staff makes every step of the process hassle free. Maybe next year I’ll get some new doors.
