Last weekend I couldn’t resisting running off to the movie theater to see Iron Man. As a fan of comics, I think some super hero movies are really bad, mainly because they don’t always use the source material very well. Case in point, Venom in Spider-Man 3. But I will have to say Iron Man rocked. Robert Downey JR was a perfect Tony Stark. The supporting cast was great as well and this came as a relief because I really wasn’t too thrilled with the Iron Man animated movie. Mainly because I didn’t like what they did with Mandarin, they totally butchered his character. This not the case with the live action film, it was great!

We’re going to head out in about an hour to get to Six Flags right when it opens. I’ll renew my season pass, because it costs less than admission for two days. A season pass will get you into any Six Flags park in the country as many times as you want. I would go every day if I could. Goliath, here we come!

I have no need to apologize for this because as they say, “You’re only as young as you feel.” I feel much younger than my age. If I never had to work another day in my life, I would spend most of my time traveling the country touring amusement parks. I do this pretty often anyway. I can’t get enough rollercoasters. Up until 2 years ago I had ridden the tallest and fastest that the U.S. has to offer, then Six Flags in New Jersey broke the record again with Kingda Ka. As it stands Kingda Ka is the tallest and fastest coaster in the world and I must ride it. At a dizzying 456 ft high and reaching a top speed of 128mph It looks incredible! For more info and a video click here.

Working in the entertainment industry, I’ve had plenty of run ins with celebrities. I’m often asked “What is such and such like?” The truth is, in most cases, I don’t really know. When I run into someone famous, that usually means I’m working and don’t have much time to talk to anyone. Occasionally I do find myself in smalltalk with the rich and famous.

One of the more memorable times when I had a 2o or 30 minute conversation with Tim McGraw and not realizing who I was talking to. I really didn’t recognize him. He was a really cool, down to earth guy and just introduced himself as Tim. I had no idea he was Tim McGraw of country music fame until someone informed me later that evening.

More often than actual celeb’s, I come across people who say they are “somebody” and are not. They’re just trying to look good by dropping names. It doesn’t take long to figure out the phonies. A few months ago a guy came into the club I was working, claiming to be the manager of Guns ‘n’ Roses and the band would be in soon. Ok, thats fine but you still have to pay for your drinks mister.

The latter is much more common.

A while back in a blog I wrote about playing Rock Band with my family. The main reason that game was so easy and fun for us is that everyone in my family is a musician. We all play multiple instruments and when we’re together you can be sure of an impromptu jam session. My parents living room looks more like a recording studio than a living space and it suits the whole family just fine. In fact, my mom and dad are always adding to the collection.

Last summer my dad and I went to an estate auction and saw an old Steinway grand piano for sale. We couldn’t resist buying it. My mom has always wanted a real grand piano and we thought it would make a great gift for her. We got it for dirt cheap because it was in really bad shape. The finish was shot, it was missing keys and of course way out of tune.

After we got it back to my house, I started looking for a local shop that could fix it up but to no avail. I looked online and found several places that could do the job. After getting quotes seeing past work from several companies, we decided to go with Lindeblad Piano Restoration.
It took about 3 months or so from the time we sent it off to get it back. When we finally did get it back, the results were absolutely amazing. It was perfectly restored to it’s previous glory. That old junk piano looked and sounded beautiful. I can’t remember the last time my mom was this happy and surprised. She never even knew we bought it because it was kept at my house until her birthday when I showed up with it.

Overall it was a good show with Samoa Joe defeating Kurt Angle for the TNA world title in a great match. The X Division stars were awesome in their match with “Black Machismo” Jay Lethal retaining the X Division title. The thing that set Lockdown apart was that it was the first time that I can recall any nationally televised wrestling organization holding womens matches in a cage. I’m not going to spoil the show anymore for those of you who plan on ordering the replay, but I will say that it was another strong shownig from TNA Wrestling.

The rematch of the century is looming and the world is waiting. Although the deal isn’t quite final, Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer says it’s close to being done. With their first fight breaking all Pay-Per-View records, the rematch promises to do the same. Schaefer says that the rematch will be held on either September 13th or 20th on HBO PPV. Schaefer is holding those dates at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.

The magnitude of this fight has attracted the attention of a number of other venues including the MGM Grand in Las Vegas and Dodger Stadium. The first meeting of the two saw Mayweather winning a split decision to take De La Hoya’s junior middleweight title on May 5th 2007 at the MGM Grand. The question remains, can boxing’s greatest attraction take his title back from the #1 fighter in the world? The sports world is certainly waiting.

Advance tickets are available and easy to get, don’t miss out! So if you’ve got the cash to go, get your Oscar De La Hoya vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. tickets today, I’d love to be there for the festivities for the whole week.

With speculation of De La Hoya’s looming retirement, Mayweather is his most lucrative opponent. Add that to the recent mainstream exposure with Mayweather’s recent appearances on Dancing With The Stars and World Wrestling Entertainment’s Wrestlemania witch saw Maywether take down the 7 foot, 450 lb Paul “Big Show” Wight. Mayweather has also expressed interest in crossing over to the world of mixed martial arts.

Before either fighter decides to leave boxing, this is a must see fight. Sure you could sit at home and watch the fight on pay per view, but nothing matches the excitement of being at the arena to see it live. No commentator can match the electricity of being a part of the live audience. After it’s all over and the best man wins, there’s nothing like knowing that you were there to witness history.

One of the worst things a DJ can do is to drink on the job! In absolutely no way does being drunk on the job help your performance. As everyone knows, while you’re intoxicated a lot of bad ideas seem good at the time. It’s very bad when you’re trying to make announcements but no one can understand you because you’re speech is so slurred. The occurrence of brainfarts multiplies exponentially as well. I like to drink up just as much as anyone else, but not at work. Being a DJ is still a job, don’t be drunk on the job.
